There was a time (oh I admit a boring time) when labels were usually inside your trousers/underwear/the collar of your shirt etc and contained size and washing information. Designer clothes were the domain of the rich and famous and names like Gucci, Gaultier, and Ralph Lauren were only seen on the catwalk or red carpet of movie premieres. However in the Eighties (what a wonderful decade for fashion:lol:) everyone started to want everything NOW. So it became a trend for getting what you wanted immediately, and these designers started selling ‘budget’ ranges to the masses. Not only did they get exposure, but it was free. You not only get to pay a premium for a standard item, but they plaster their name across your chest - and you want more. So with immediate effect all manufacturers who label their products with their name MUST pay the purchaser for the advertising that they will get … let’s see how many stay in business
