I have been listening, with astonishment that borders on stupefacation, to the outpourings of the Muslim/Asian community in East London about the police raid on a house suspected of bomb-making. Honest updstanding citizens are confused and angry about the treatment by police during this search. The brothers involved are said to have been beaten whist being captured. The new head of the Muslim Council of Great Britian accuses the authoritites of heavy handed tactics and victimisation of Mulsims, whist the national media is in frenzy of reporting and implicit criticism of the operation.

Let’s look at a few points here: The poilce are here to gather information and, if deemed a threat to society, act on that information to protect society. Sometimes that information is wrong - however if they hadn’t acted a bomb was being made and it exploded prematurely, then the local residents would have been complaining that the police weren’t protecting them ande rightly so.

The people who are complaining the most are those that have come to this country to enjoy the opportunities, freedoms and lifestyles that are not available to them in the the countries they have left. They have escaped the restrictions placed on them in their countries of origin to enjoy a better life whilst retaining their own culture, which historically is usually integrated into our own. Therefore terrorist acts aginst this country are terrorist acts against themselves.

It is interesting to note that during the second World War, German immigrants living in this country were all evacuated to the Isle of Wight, for the duration of the war, to ensure that no insurgents posed a threat from within during the conflict. How would the Muslim Council of Great Britain react to that kind of treatment?

As has been mentioned, a lot of asian muslims have come to this country (perhaps through their parents or grandparents) to enjoy a better life. This means embracing our countries laws and language. One of the freedoms of this country is to have the right to worship who you wish and how you want (within the confines of our law - no sacricing of virgins). This also entails my right to worship who I want. It also means embracing this countries culture and being part of the community. Organisations such as the Muslim Council of Great Britain do nothing to help that integration - it very title segregates them and sets them apart. It cannot be a sub-set of our community you either are British or your not. You can have your own religious hierarchy, many do - Catholic, Protestant, Jew, Buddhist, Pagan, etc, but to have a political arm (Muslim Council of Great Britain) is instantly segregating a section of society. Sinn Fein is the political arm of the IRA.Similarly a spokeman for the police was captioned as being head of the National Black Police Association which segments the police force into divisions of colour. Does that mean the BNP (political arm of the National Front maybe) not have the same rights to freedom of speech as the Muslim Council of Great Britain - one wants to promote the rights of the Muslim community, the other of White Anglo-Saxons?
We are English. If you want to be English fine then support the right to live the English way and embrace and respect our way of life, otherwise leave. At the end of the day people come here because they envy what we have - freedom.
